Svein Tuft

We had Tour de France superstars riding up and down our roads, but one of the most fascinating characters in this year's edition of the ToM was Svein Tuft; Canadian redneck. This was the guy who won the U.S. Open cycling race in April in frigid conditions and 15 minutes of whiteout. He lives in a trailer in a little town called Langley, near Vancouver. He never seems to shave and is of indeterminate age.

He also made a brave solo attack near the end of stage 4 here in Columbia with less than 1k to go. Finally, he's got a cool name that sounds vaguely German, Swedish, or possibly Danish.

Man this is a great time to be alive and living in Columbia, Missouri. What a cool town. I just had to say that . . .

  2. Man, no doubt.

What's also great about that is he is a really super nice guy, which can't be said for some other folks on the Discover team.

  5. Didn't you guys work at the same bike shop in IA City back in the day? I vaguely remember meeting him in, like, 1989.

It was the same weekend we removed reflectors from every Schwinn Varsity on the U of I campus.
