So, I might be lamenting the passing of winter weather for a few days, but I must admit that there is nothing better than riding on a warm winter day with a big group like we did today. I think my watch said 4 hours by the time I got back home. I swung home with a nice little group--Ron Sapp, Jaysin and Jessica . . . . Ron gave me a Payday bar, it really helped me get home. Now to keep losing the weight . . . . today surely helped with that.

Winter
Since I was a kid I've always really loved winter. Kirksville, a place that is a good 7-10 degrees colder than Columbia on any given day, often got severe winters. My brother and I played tons of hockey as kids, and sledding was a major pastime. I also lived in Lincoln NE for several years, and that place got really cold, brutal winters. Holmes Lake, a city park in Lincoln much like Stephens Lake Park, froze over in December and as far as I remember didn't thaw until March. It was pretty much a given that there would be a pick-up hockey tournament there every day. They even put plows out on the ice to clear off the snow for the outdoor rink. I think I might have lived there during some cold winters, but nonetheless, this is what we did.
I miss winter. It just doesn't really happen around here. We got so close to getting some good ice at Stephens Lake Park for hockey and skating, but that is all going to end tomorrow. Ice hockey and other winter sports always kept me in shape for the spring cycling season. The same year I went to the national championships, my brother and I hammered each other for almost a month in one on one hockey, on a baseball field no less, that had somehow iced over because of a massive freak sleet storm that had melted, followed by single digit cold for weeks on end. I think winter sports keep you fresher for the cycling season, and even if you don't really get on a bike until late February or early March who is going to know in July, you know?
Sda, I envy you. It now looks like you have 19 days of skiing under your belt, and that just isn't fair.

I was just looking up some beer brewing kits online. This looks like a cool hobby to me.
I was also thinking about my training—and how beer brewing could very well help my chances in the Butthead Halloween race. I’m not quite sure how it will help, but I’m pretty sure it will. This is the race I’m gunning for this year . . . if it is the only race I do all year, than my season will still be complete.
